Importance of Filter Changes

Importance of Filter Changes

The air filter is one of the simplest and most effective things you can maintain on your heating and cooling system. A dirty filter restricts airflow, raises energy use, and can lead to frozen coils or overheating in extreme Arkansas weather.

How often to change filters

Most homes should check filters monthly and replace them every 1 to 3 months. Homes with pets, more occupants, or higher pollen and dust (common in the River Valley) usually need more frequent changes. High-efficiency media filters may last longer — check the manufacturer’s guidance and your system’s needs.

What a clogged filter costs you

Restricted airflow makes the blower work harder and can cause the system to short-cycle or fail to reach temperature. Over time this increases wear on the motor and compressor and can raise your power bill. In cooling season a dirty filter is a common cause of iced evaporator coils.

Better indoor air quality

Filters also capture dust, pollen, and other particles before they circulate through the house. Changing them regularly is a basic step toward cleaner air, especially for households with allergies or respiratory concerns.

Membership makes it easier

Several Comfort Membership plans include filter supply so you stay on schedule without remembering to buy replacements. During seasonal tune-ups we also check and replace the filter as part of the visit.
